Reducing Waste on Two Fronts

The overall goal of this mission is to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. Most of our work is done on the back-end, after waste has already been created, perhaps mis-sorted, and thrown out. But the front-end (think ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’) is equally important, if not more impactful.

The Front End

1. Reduce your waste!

2. Sort your waste!

The Back End

At ‘Stanford Dumpsters’, we dive in order to sort and salvage. Most of what we find in the trash is recyclable, compostable, or still in working condition. We’re able to increase the recycle rate, increase composting (thereby reducing the amount of organic substances producing methane in landfills), and use/donate goods we find.

If you’d like to help with our sort-and-salvage project, come join a dumpster dive! We always have extra protective gear on hand and would love to show you the wondrous world of Stanford’s dumpsters. Since trash is taken out on M/W/F, we dive from 2:30pm-3:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 2:30pm-3:30pm on Sundays all over campus.
